1. History taking
- High prevalence in breeding pigs
- Low conception rate and abortion
- Presence of cats, rodents and birds in stall
2. Clinical examination
- Young pigs : high fever, pneumonia
- Adult pig : weakness, cough, tremor but no fever
- Pregnant sow : abortion, mummified fetus
and stillbirths
3. Serological tests
- IFAT
- Latex agglutination test
- Modified agglutination test

4. Necropsy
- Hydrothorax
- Pericarditis
- Enlargement of lymph nodes, spleen
5. Histopathological observation
- Necrotic foci in the lung, liver and kidney
- Fibrinous pneumonia
- Lymphadenitis
- Tachyzoites found in tissue sections of lung,
liver and brain
- Encephalitis
6. Experimental animal inoculation
- Inoculation of tissue (lung, brain, liver, heart
and fetus) into mice
Control and treatment
- Isolation of infected animals
- Keep away from birds, rats and cats
- Avoid to feed pigs with uncooked garbage
